Galicia Tiny tables, crammed with empty glasses, 54min wait for food after a 1/2hr wait for a table DESPITE HAVING BOOKED!! My jacket was not taken, nor my husbands. Waiter was rude, food presentation was embarrassing but in their favour, it tasted good and was hot at least. Very noisy - couldn't hold a conversation and when we asked where the food was, the waiter said "it's the paella, it takes 40 mins - if you ordered a starter you wouldn't have noticed", then walked off. RUDELY. When I said that the starter comment was a bit rude, but it's OK, the waiter just shruged. I am quite dissapointed - there were loads of regulars there - kissing the waiters, etc - they did not seem to mind the 1.5hr wait for food. In their favour, the food was very tasty, but eating out is about an entire experience, and they could not manage the basics. Also - if someone bangs pot lids in your ear, almost deafening you, don't worry - it's some chav's birthday. Ruined Evening - Review dated 8 August 2010 Galicia If you fancy a nice quiet relaxed dining experiance give this fabulous place a very wide birth! Esp on weekends this place becomes a chaotic manic and very loud bar/restaurant serving up the real thing. The atmosphere and food is nothing short of spactacular, and decent prices and very large tapas portions. There's also a section at the back for quieter dining. Best Spanish food outside of Spain. Keep up the great work folks! Steve - Review dated 15 November 2009 Galicia Why bother going to any other restaurant in Croydon/London? This is the real deal. The tapas are really raciones! And a flavour to die for. Even amoungst the chaos of Saturday night the service is quick and friendly. Always seems to be packed out. Like all good tapas bars there are no reservations available. Straight out of Madrid this place is! Steve - Review dated 15 November 2009 galicia tapas bar Been going for many years and never fails.Certainly the best food in Croydon and very much the genuine article. I can only think the very few negative reviews must be plants by the nearly empty and disgruntled opposition establishments !! robert - Review dated 4 January 2009 Galicia oh dear ,pretty poor, garlic mushrooms old and dry, and deep fat fried ,bravas red potato mush, unfortunatly quiet amazed how people in 2008 can put up with this ,possitive remark croquets ,bread very good ,service uninspiriring and realy made you feel if you were number 203 they had served today if you no what i mean matt - Review dated 8 December 2008 Galicia Without doubt...one of the best in London let alone Croydon. Can't get any better than this for Spanish unless you fly to Barcelona. Never miss it when I'm in town from Oz. Dorothy - Review dated 20 August 2008 Galicia I absolutely agree with Chris. this is a very busy place on a friday and saturday so if you dont want to be waiting for about half an hour (which isnt actually too long!) go mid week when the food is still excellent but the atmosphere less hectic. at weekends expect to wait a while but the bar staff will keep you entertained. when you do get your table and order the fantastic food try the choritzo in red wine and garlic!! its amazing! Stewart - Review dated 23 July 2008 Galicia I wouldn't normally bother but I just had to refute the review written by Sarah. Yes, Galicia is busy but that is because this is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in London and you can't book to eat inthe Tapas area. The food is excellent, as is the atmosphere. Go, you wont regret it. Chris - Review dated 12 July 2008 Galicia Really bad service, waiting for a menu for 25 mins, staff rude and abrupt. don't waste your time or money. sarah - Review dated 2 June 2008 La Galicia This place is amazing. Quality of sevice, food and atmosphere is always guaranteed. My friends and I are regulars whenever we need a girlie catch up, meals with partners and even when you can't be bothered to cook as it is reasonably priced as well. I would highly recommend this restuarant even to the fussiest of eaters as there is something for everyone. Natalie Murrell - Review dated 22 November 2007 Galicia Went on an unexpected free night of children last Friday. The atmosphere was buzzing and whole place was heaving. managed to get a seat at the bar and asked for a table. Only waited about 15 minutes and ordered 4 tapas dishes and a salad. All were served quickly and were delicious. Really good value at £33 and too much for us to finish. Only down side for me was it was extremely smoky but then won't be a problem from Sunday! Yummymummy - Review dated 4 July 2007 Galicia Always a good atmosphere with happy and freindly waiters. I was the first customer when Galicia opened some 10/11 years ago,my wife and I still go at least twice a week, so they must be doing something right.Great value for money! john and ellen - Review dated 7 April 2007 Galicia The tapas was well seasoned and full of flavour, the prawns with garlic and white wine were more-ish i would also suggest the mussels, chorizo & potato in tomato sauce and the wine (chardonnay) was fantastic.I would definately recommend this restaurant, the atmosphere is lively and the staff are friendly and very helpful. henrietta - Review dated 15 February 2007 Galacia I've been twice, the first time I thought was an off night -but the second time was awful too, the rice was overcooked and the prawns tasted odd (I didn't eat them). Certainly wouldn't go again. H Fieldhouse - Review dated 13 December 2006 galicia The sea food paella was the best I ever had so far - fantastic. That's funny because it is in sunny Croydon! Christian - Review dated 8 December 2006 Galicia Restaurant The food was really bad, the rice was like boil in the bag, i also felt very rushed - there were 8 of us and we spent a lot of money, i will never go there again Andrea - Review dated 14 November 2006 Galicia I so miss this restaurant, no other can compare to the wonderful food, wine and service you get here. I am currently living in USA and it's amazing how many "Tapas" restaurants think they are serving the "Genuine" tapas...but they need to take some culinary lesson's from "Galicia". Looking forward to heading back for some true, decent Tapas! well done guy's! GW - Review dated 27 September 2006 Galicia Had a fantastic lunch today. The food was very tasty with the freshest flavours I can remember tasting. The monkfish was divine. The service was friendly and professional as always. And the bill didn't burn a hole in the pocket either! We could only wonder why we'd left it so long since our last visit. gav s - Review dated 5 September 2006 Galicia Its a lovely tapas bar, always packed full and unfortunatly you cant book otherwise you end up in the restaurant rather than the tapas bar which isnt quite so nice. the waiters are friendly and love to joke, and the food is always delicious. Jenny Edmondson - Review dated 9 May 2006 galicia I have eaten in the Galicia for years, too many to remember, I was the person that always took over the corner spot at the bar, I am just about to open a restaurant in Bangkok, If It's half as good as Galicia's then I'll be laughing! terry - Review dated 9 May 2006 Galicia Its wicked you have come. It better than all the other spanish in town. Dan R - Review dated 1 December 2004 La Galicia I always enjoy this restaurant (only ever for tapas) and am a regular visitor, however, they have a slight tendency towards a little bit of bad attitude and usuallly try to rush you out once it becomes obvious that you not going to order too much more, and perhaps your'e just trying to enjoy a last few glasses of some of their excellenmt wines. GH - Review dated 5 July 2004 Galicia Great location, food, prices and service. The best restaurant in Croydon. Richard - Review dated 24 March 2004 Galicia Galicia is the best restaurant in Croydon, far better service and atmosphere than it's famous competitor La Rueda. Don't take my word for it - go there. I've heard this opinion from plenty of others too. As for John's review, ignore it. Chris - Review dated 29 January 2004 Galicia A good value, family restaurant with a lively atmosphere and good quality food. Read the restaurant review section of my website www.kenfrost.com for a detailed review. Ken Frost - Review dated 9 August 2003 Galicia Excellent Food, Excellent Service, Excellent Price! Mum and Daugther! - Review dated 10 March 2003 Galicia Restaurant Review is for the restaurant, and not for the tapas bar. Good atmosphere. Waiters polite. Food took far too long to arrive though, and when it did, it was disappointing. We ordered mixed grilled seafood. It looked and tasted as though it had been grilled earlier and then re-heated in the oven. Dry and poor texture. The wine list on the other hand was excellent. We had a Torres Chardonnay. Correct temperature. Nice wine. Conclusion: Not the place to go if you want authentic Galician seafood, but makes a fair evening out. Marks out of ten: Food 5, Wine 9, Service 5, Atmosphere 7, overall value for money 6 John Clark (Brussels) - Review dated 18 February 2003 Galicia Fantastic No need to say anymore Asti Theodosi - Review dated 13 September 2002 Galicia Restaurant Excellent service, friendly atmosphere and good prices. Most of all the entertainment from the staff is of the best standard, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes a lively and yet romantic evening. Michelle Williams - Review dated 4 June 2002 La tasca Rather dreadful, really. We ordered several dishes and salads for our vegetarian party- what turned up was a plate of what looked like dogfood or something worse and a non-veg tuna salad nestled amongst our tapas. None of which we had ordered. one patatas bravas was missing and the size of 'large' tapas here is the size of a small dish at home.( none of us are huge eaters, either) the order was sent back leaving us with 3 correct dishes for 4 starving people. We waited and waited and decided the staff hated us as we sat for nearly 1/2 an hour. Finally we were given a bit more, but were past caring.... The small amount we had was faitly pleasnat but not great. they reduced the bill considerably, but did it first without telling us so we were confusedd right to the end. testbunny - Review dated 12 October 2008 La Tasca We always enjoy going to El Tasca in Croydon and our friends loved it too. It is like eating in an old Spanish mansion - huge black braziers on the ceiling, dark vellum walls, Happy Spanish music plays in the background - and great food too. Their best speciality is the variety of mini paellas. There is also a kids' menu, and it's great having a jug of sangria with the meal. The kids' menu needs more plain stuff as kids are fussy - otherwise fantastic, and very friendly staff. Sara L. Russell - Review dated 16 August 2008 la tasca It was ok until i found out they cook the food in a warehouse and serve it reheated...chewing gum in garlic anyone??nice staff but we are here to eat as well... L.R - Review dated 9 August 2007 La Tasca It may well of become a victim of its own success - but last time I went service was terrible! They failed to inform me that my section of the restaurant would include a Hen night with 20+ people and only had one waiter to serve all. After I ordered the drinks - and said I would like a couple of minutes before ordering the main - the waiter disappeared - never to return! I paid for my drinks, then left. Pip - Review dated 3 June 2007 La Tasca La Tasca is a standard tapas restaurant that is generally 'ok' all round. The food is OK, the staff are OK and so is the restaurant itself. If you're caught out hungry in the centre of Croydon and are too tired to walk down to South End, try La Tasca. C Hanrahan - Review dated 4 April 2007 La Tasca A chain Tapas. Not a great start. The decor is ok but a tad dull. Service was good but the food was mediocre at best. Avoid. RobK - Review dated 23 February 2007 La tasca I must say that La Tasca is my favourite restaurant at the moment; Its perfect for bringing parents, friends and other halves (which is why im on this website atm....) The atmosphere is fantastic, the waiters very competent and I have always found the service very quick. I would reccomend the Sangria; it comes in a er.....clay type jug thing? Its not too strong as to make you ridiculously tipsy but its refreshingly alcoholic enough. Delicious (with fruit bits included! hurrah!) Definatley great for any occasion, I would be surprised if you didn't have a great night out at this restaurant. Im going there tomorrow and just can't wait! Id reccomend the patatas bravas btw. Bye! Sarah - Review dated 14 December 2006 La Tasca Modern Tapas restaurant with a not unattractive layout. Background music loud enough to dance to but suprisingly unintrusive during conversation at the table. Service was cheerful, attentive and helpful. One of our number needed gluten-free dishes and staff were suprisingly well prepared and able to identify (the considerable number of) suitable menu items. Wine choice was good. Food from the extensive tapas menu was nicely cooked and thankfully not drowned in olive oil (unlike some places I could mention!). Perhaps not the most cosy or intimate of eateries but service and food are spot on. Recommended. Bonzai - Review dated 23 March 2006 la tasca looks great. unfortunately the food was disgusting, unedible, prawns floating in oil, supposedly 'king'... even the garlic bread was awful. portions ridiculously small. Go to the tapas in Purley for authentic Spanish cuisine, and for the same price. I will never, ever go to La Tasca again! 12/12/05 Jon - Review dated 13 December 2005 La Tasca Excellent all round evening for a party of out of towners, here for only one night. Made our stay in Croydon all the more enjoyable. Andy McAdam - Review dated 30 September 2005 La Tasca Please don't go to this restaurant, you'll only love it and tell your friends and familly to try it, then they'll all go and enjoy it too and I'll have trouble getting a table. STEER WELL CLEAR! I don't like having to wait! :-) Danny - Review dated 15 March 2005 La Tasca A great addition to the High Street. A chain whilst still feeling a unique - after a few yummy sangrias you could be in a tapas bar in spain. Friendly, unrushed service and fab food - dip your bread in the Piri Piri prawn sauce, yummy. Well priced - a meal for 2 big eaters with drinks under 30 quid. Andrea - Review dated 24 July 2004 Las Fuentes Las Fuentes; Had a smashing birthday party, the staff were attentive and friendly, the food was very tasty and served in a timely manner. Maybe a good idea to pitch up early, when we left, it was really busy. Julian 22/04/09 Julian Williams - Review dated 23 April 2009 Las Fuentes Delicious food and fantastic service ! Great size portions, wonderfully presented.Very polite and friendly staff. Great lively atmosphere. Definatly visit again. jo & gary - Review dated 3 January 2009 Las Fuentes Don't bother. We were squashed in like sardines you had to shout at each other to be heard. the staff were rude. susan - Review dated 23 October 2008 Las fuentes Bad food served on a plate, it's greasy, it's fried in diesel oil it is sooo bad, Spoilt the evening for us. we couldn't talk all night, as you will have to shout to get your words across but this is how they make their money by shoving us like potatoes i a sac. awful food Eric Montgomery - Review dated 25 August 2008 Las Fuentes I agree with the recent reviews below. I have been to Las Fuentes for various birthdays, family dinners, dinner for 2 etc over the last 8 years. It isn't what it was. You have to get in very early at the weekend to get a table. The last time we went at 6pm on a Saturday the staff were just finishing off their own dinners. No atmosphere, very rushed, food felt like it had been reheated and pretty bland. Very expensive. When the new owners took over from Gio it was good, the food was good as was the service but since then it's just gone downhill. Friday is a no no unless you are under 21. We are going to try Gallicia which is a shame because Las Fuentes was always our favourite local restaurant, but it just isn't the same. Cheryl - Review dated 14 April 2008 Las Fuentes, Purley V disappointing. Booked for my father's birthday, which they knew at the time of booking. Service v slow - even to get initial drinks. Food indifferent (poor in some cases). Power cut during the evening not their fault, but took nearly 1/2 an hour to bring 1 tealight to a table of eight. Not cheap either. Simply not good enough for the money. Go to Galicia in South Croydon instead for better food and far better service and more fun. Nicki - Review dated 18 March 2008 las fuentes what can i say...dont undrestand how this place is so busy...very rude staff..portions are taken from the last table to the next(recicled octopus)...since giovanni left(governor) for me this isnt better than ordering a chinese takeaway on saturday night..good luck p.s - Review dated 9 August 2007 Las Fuentes To sum up my experience in this tapas restaurant in a few words - we left before sitting! Staff were rude and ignored us while we waited for over 30 minutes without being offered a drink, they could learn from the Galicia, much better customer service, staff are friendly and welcoming, very important in this industry! Olivia - Review dated 8 February 2007 Las`Fuentes The best spanish restaurant, by far, in the area. The tapas are just exquisite and the staff are really friendly. The quality if the wines can be judged by the house wine, which in this case is excellent. Sean - Review dated 19 December 2005 Las Fuentes An amazing place at a great price, always busy but that adds to the atomosphere. Would recommend this definitly Rob - Review dated 14 October 2004 Las Fuentes Am a regular diner at Las Fuentes and have never been disappointed. Excellent food and wine. Caroline - Review dated 3 June 2004 LAS FUENTES I regularly dine at Las Fuentes because of the fantastic food they serve. It amazes me at the quality considering the amount of people that dine there. It is often busy and you may have to wait for a while to dine but the drinks at the bar are reasonably priced and it is well worth the wait. It is particularly friendly to families and groups of women and the staff are great. Keep up the good work!! Damian Skinner - Review dated 3 April 2003 Magellans Magellans is a favourite restaurant of mine, having first been there on my second date with my now long term boyfriend. Since that date I have been to Magellans with friends, work colleagues and my partner. Always, the atmosphere is excellent and the staff are always friendly and attentive. Having persuaded my friends to make the journey to Croydon we are now hosting a friend's Hen Night there in June. I would recommend Magellans to anyone who wants a lively but not noisy night out with good food, good service and an ambiance that suits young and old alike. Katie.B - Review dated 17 May 2002 Los Dos Amigos Tapas Bar and Restaurant Fantastic food! I went there with a group of people and everybody loved it. Will definitely be returning. Jess - Review dated 21 November 2008 Los Dos Amigos ive been here several ocasions and its absolutely amazing! its great for friends and family, its got a wonderful ambience & service & not to mention food... definately one of my favourite food. it's the best spanish tapas ive ever tasted, and before when it used to be elios i didnt want to go inside but now its lively and definately a number one place to go for food.i even order to take home with me. a highly recomended place.brilliant chefs. Sue - Review dated 18 November 2008 Los Dos Amigos Myself and 7 other work colleagues tried out this new spanish restaurant. We were amazed by the quality of the food and service! It was a great taste of authentic spanish cuisine and delicious tapas...compliments to the chef!!! I'll look forward to going there again soon! Nicola - Review dated 18 November 2008 Picasso this restaurant is devine! all the staff are sooooo friendly, and the food is sooooooooo good, that my family and i even have our Christmas Day meal there! we go every year, and have been for a good while now. it was recommened by some of our friends, who love it just as much as we do... shannon mc. - Review dated 25 August 2007 Picasso AN OUTSTANDING RESTAURANT!!!!!!!! You cannot get better, service, value for money and what money cannot buy - Atmosphere!! not rushed and happy for any size of party. A must for any food loving, wine drinking fun diner! Kate - Review dated 5 June 2007 PICASSO FANTASTIC SERVICE !!! - HAVE BEEN GOING THERE FOR OVER 20 YEARS. HAVE ONLY BEEN TO ONE OTHER SPANISH RESTAURANT. PICASSO BEATS THEM ALL !!! THERESA - Review dated 26 September 2006 PICASSO'S GREAT PLACE i had to put it in capitals as i find it a great restaurant fabulous food with the service to go with it,,,very well priced aswell compared to galicias which i found ok but prefer picassos as the chillis in white wine sauce is the best ive had for a while........So Go there john - Review dated 26 June 2006 Picasso Fabulous restaruant, Great service, fantastic food and the prices are great. The atmosphere is always good and the Paella is to die for. Highly Recomended Maria - Review dated 6 July 2004 La Rioja It's hard to express how awful my experience of this 'restaurant' was in a few words. My visit was a birthday surprise. And what a surprise it was. Bad service, out of stock for half the menu, badly cooked food served cold. That's just the beginning, the place was almost sub-zero temperature and we noticed the only other dinners kept their coats on. We were badgered constantly to order and when we were ready the staff had vanished. After ordering we waited for at least forty minutes, only to be told what we wanted was unavailable. Two letters of complaint were ignored and a phone call was met with ' did you expect a reply?'. They clearly don't care, so don't go there. Absolutely dreadful.
