bunga raya Really bad, the decor is out of date, the drinks are awful, I am sure they were watered down, several people tasted mine and agreed with me, staff are not attentive and the food is extremely greasy. They also don't keep each dish topped up so you end up waiting. I advise people spend their hard earned cash elswhere. Rick - Review dated 2 February 2009 bunga raya hi again! i just wanted to say hello to everyone who works there! long time no see, well, since thursday anyway! we should be back in next week, well, we WILL be in next week, can't wait...love it there! everyone is soo onice and the food is GREAT. we never stay away for more than 2 weekz, we are ALWAYS in there...everyone is like fanily to us. xxxxxxx shazza - Review dated 13 October 2007 Bunga Raya More needs to be invested on the interior, which reminded me of a school hall with blu-tak left all over the walls and ceilings. The furniture is basic and it took us an hour to get there from West London. If you don't care about the decor, the food is quite tasty and authentic. I'd give it 7 out of 10. Probably not worth travelling an hour to get there but if you live in the area it's a good value for money place to eat. Karaoke is quite hilarious. Kammy - Review dated 26 September 2007 bunga raya this is the BEST place in the world to eat! it is kind of like a second home to me, as i am in there all the time! the food is devine, but not only that, the staff are really friendly and are like my family. shazza - Review dated 25 August 2007 Bunga Raya I have to say i had a leaving party at Bunga Raya before i moved to Germany and they were extremley accomodating. There were 30 of us, both family and friends and the staff could not be more helpful. The food was good.... there was a real party atmosphere!!!There are not many places like it!!! A great night out if you ask me!!! I am now planning my cousins hen party there as i am so impressed by the place!!! Harrysec - Review dated 6 August 2007 Bunga Raya If one would like to attend a night at the Malaysian Restaurant more commonly known as the Bunga Raya i would seriously recommend that you book as it is always packed to the rafters. After a few drinks lovely grub the ol'karaoke comes to light and everyone starts singing and gettin involved. An absoulte brilliant night!!!!! loool thats jokes about the phone thing. 6 o'CLOCK!! in the morning loool Adz - Review dated 24 April 2007 bunga raya/len aye That man len aye. 31 jan 2006. is a real jobs worth i am glad he and his wife do not go to the bunga raya.in thorton heath.sounds like a real kill joy to me what type of question was that am or pm for the opening times really. sjb - Review dated 21 December 2006 Bunga Raya Brilliant food atmosphere and tradional food!! melicia - Review dated 4 November 2006 Bunga Raya My wife phoned the restaurant (31/01/06 2:30 p.m.) to enquire about the opening times. A woman answered and was told that it opens from 6 o'clock. She then happened asked her if it was morning or evening and this is the response: "What kind of question is that? How many restaurants do you know that opens at 6 in the morning? How long have you been in this country? If you been here long enough you would never ask this kind of question!", by which time my wife put the phone down. With attitudes like that, we will not be going there EVER. Len Aye - Review dated 31 January 2006 Bunga Raya Having to come a long way from London NW, we have never been disappointed by the food and the service at Bunga Raya. Henry is attentive and the food is authentic and as always delicious. The buffet lunch is extremely good value and if one is going at the weekend, it is best to make a booking. Andrew - Review dated 24 October 2005 Bunga Raya great authenthic malaysian food.. highly recommended! :) eelaine - Review dated 31 May 2004 Bunga Raya We have been visiting The Bunga Raya for very many years now & travel up from East Grinstead whenever we feel those withdrawl symptons! Go early on for the Buffet(around 6.30) as its really fresh and there'll be loads of it just for you! - especially the Satay! which tends to get nicked pretty quickly when the restaurant fills up! I was born and bred in Singapore so I know my Laksa from my mee hoons! Jeanne Irwin - Review dated 14 February 2003 Bunga Raya ...or 'National Flower' roughly translated. Serve yourself buffet service. Very good selection of authentic Malay food to suit all tastes and diets. Good value. Recommended. AE - Review dated 2 July 2002 Danny's Danny's style of selling food reflects the common trend in Malaysia where it is normally called 'Economy Rice' where the food consists of a wide combination, usually a mixture of Chinese dishes (sweet and sour pork etc) and Malay dishes (lamb curry). It is meant to be economical so that the masses can buy for both lunch and dinner, and Danny's has manged to do just that by offering a complete meal at £3.95 - true value for money. They also have daily specialties, you just have to ask them or look right above the board where it's written - it's usually Malaysian hawker food such as Char Koay Teow or Laksa; reminds me of home so much - Try it! The place is 1st floor of Whitgift Centre immediately via the main entrance on the right (opposite Virgin Megastore). S Lim S Lim - Review dated 24 June 2005 Danny's This restaraunt in the Whitgift Shopping Mall is a haven for a wide selection of INTERNATIONAL food! With a name like Danny's,green interiors and Chinese staffs, please be mninded that Danny's is NOT an Irish NOR a strictly Chinese restaurant. For only 3.95 for a complete hot meal which consist of 2 meat dishes,1 vegetable and rice/noodle/fries,you are spoilt for choices as the array of dishes differs from 1 to another and changes from time to time!chicken, lamb, beef, pork, seafood, curries, spicy, sweet, sour, Chinese, Hungarian, Italian, Indian, English..etc. Clean, friendly staff and fast and efficent services. Whether for a budget lunch, dinner or just to have a good hot meal with lots of choices, head to Danny's! See you there! - Advertisment Bonnie Lung - Review dated 16 May 2005 Happy Inn (Wing Yip) This resturant is DELICIOUS. Its sweet and sour chicken is comforting and so is their other food. You are fairly treated and sometimes there is karoake. Recommended for people who like being entertained. P.S.Their crispy duck is fantastic especially in the rolls. YUM! Matthew - Review dated 22 February 2010 Happy Inn Great variety of tasty food in the buffet and washed down with a couple of Tiger Beers. Very nice. Good service also. A nice time was had by all! Mark - Review dated 6 April 2006 Happy Inn, Kelong Went to this restaurant while it was still known as Keelong. Extensive variety of 'chinese' buffet. Not the real thing though..miss the real chinese food, not the ones that has been cooked to cater for the western taste buds. Ray Lee - Review dated 26 January 2006 Happy Inn Am missing Kelong. Tried hard to impersonate but without success. Manager OTT and staff tried hard. Food not up to same standard with not much taste and would NOT rush back. Must be somewhere else better for the price. OK for one-off. Pictures of buffet outside do not match dishes inside! Enaid - Review dated 23 May 2005 Happy Inn This was the old Kelong restaurant and Ming, the new manager, tells me that they have kept the same chef. The dishes are very similar, and still very tasty. Being a new restaurant everyone was trying hard to please and I and my guests enjoyed our visit. Ming, who used to manage the "Hot Gossip" chinese restaurant in West Hampstead says that he hopes to intruduce live jazz on Fridays nights in a couple of months time. I will certainly be going back! - Great value. Seanair - Review dated 19 May 2005 Kelong (Purley Way) - Now Happy Inn First visit 12 Nov 2003. Very wide range of food in the buffet - everything I tried was excellent - shame the old belly isn't big enough to try more !! Well worth a visit or three. aka Trevor - Review dated 13 November 2003 Kelong (Purley way) now Happy Inn Kelong offers the Chinese influenced West Coast Malay cuisine. We elected for the buffet with a choice of some three dozen different dishes. All those I tried were superbly cooked. Several vegetarian dishes were offered and labelled as such. An extra veggy dish or two would have been welcome, and a couple of noodle dishes which were veggy were not labelled as such (better than the other way round though!). Puddings were authentic and generous including a dish not usually seen over here: Black Rice Pudding! Drinkswise there was a suprisingly extensive wine list, the usual staple liqueurs and aperatifs and a range of asian beers. Service was very good without being obtrusive. The restaurant is simply but not unattractively decorated and spotlessly clean. Background music was generally quiet but occasionally intruded. In terms of access, a little off the beaten track but plenty of parking right outside (or use the 289 bus). In short: Highly Recommended. Bonzai - Review dated 13 November 2002 Kelong This has always been popular with our family. The restaurant has recently (2008) been renovated but still has the fresh, airy and relaxed feel. The staff are very attentive without being intrusive, and the food was just lovely, but if you don’t like what is on the menu they will prepare something English (the stake and chips was delicious). Brian Morgan - Review dated 13 August 2008 KELONG - South Croydon Visited this restaurant on Mother's Day. Having been here previously, I was looking forward to the Buffef, however, food was not as nice as it used to be and my husband and myself had food poisoning. Would not recommend it especially for £21.50 per head!! Mrs Smith - Review dated 20 March 2007 kelong go here if you want your money taken away - they charged me 90p more than I was supposed to pay. food awful, service non-existent, I now feel physically sick inside with their foul tasting food!!! as you can guess - I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Andrew - Review dated 29 May 2006 Keelong I went to this restaurant with my friends for birthday. Not the one in Purley Way, but the one next to the Swan and Sugar Loaf in Selsdon Road. We did not have the buffet but ordered from the menu. It turns out that the food was taken from the buffet but just re-cooked to different style. Am dissapointed. Also prawns was not fresh, and had food poisoning the day after. The choice of food in the buffet is good but ott. Ray Lee - Review dated 26 January 2006 Kelong Not a lot to say, just go there and try! Pick one plate and try what you like, leave what you don't and when you go up for the next course they take your dirty plate away! Fantastic and think of the washing up you don't have to do!! Food Fab - would deffo recommend!!!!! Billie Baker - Review dated 9 December 2003 Kelong Mega! Buffet so you can choose what you like - great value for money and plenty of it!! Fresh fish starter - fresh prawns HUGE and very easy on the tongue. Will go again, and again and again and would definately recommend. Must try!!! Enaid - Review dated 9 December 2003 Kelong Went on 26/10/02. Nice ambiance with good variety of food but the food was not authentic S’porean cuisine . Ice Kachang had no redbeans and Gula Melaka was just coconut water with sago. Pricey for the quality of food. Wouldn’t go again. Eileen - Review dated 28 October 2002 Kelong Great food - the eat as much as you like menu is great fun and great value. Go in the evening, the food seems to be better. Advisable to book. Peter C-A - Review dated 17 May 2002 Kelong Very good buffet Steve Jones - Review dated 17 May 2002 Kelong Excellent value for money - and they let you take a doggy bag home Julie - Review dated 17 May 2002 Kelong Buffet choice excellent. Food delicious and staff friendly. Price very reasonable. Trish - Review dated 17 May 2002 Kelong Fantastic buffet - by far the best way to eat! Lots of it - plenty of choice, and dishes are regularly replenished to ensure that you aren't left with the scraggy bits! Rona - Review dated 17 May 2002 Kelong Excellent value for money !!. Range of cuisine could not be faulted, quality of food 10/10. Shrimps.....delicious. Would highly recomend. Derek F. - Review dated 17 May 2002 Kelong KELONG, SOUTH CROYDON - The restaurant has a fresh, airy and relaxed feel. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive and the food was just lovely, with something for everyone's tastes. margo v. - Review dated 17 May 2002 Malay House After the temporary stewardship of Ani Sup Utara, I am glad to report that things are back to normal with the old staff back in charge. The usual good quality, fine service and friendly staff. Welcome back! Bonzai - Review dated 29 September 2008 Ani Sup Utara ...has taken over the famed Malay House. Early days yet but menu is largely a selection of soups (all meat, no fish or veg) with a few of the old dishes pushed to the back. I did try the Sup Perut (tripe soup!), which could best be described as different. Nothing wrong with it but a dull contrast to the lively dishes on the old menu. Service, decor, cleanliness are still spot on, but unless the new leasholders put back some of the old dishes then they are going to lose an 8 year old customer base. Bonzai - Review dated 29 February 2008 Malay House This is one of Croydon's best kept secrets. There are not many restaurants you can bring your own alcohol to. The food is great, fantastic value and our local, we often go there for the buffet on the Sunday.Thoroughly recommend it. Perry - Review dated 5 December 2007 Malay House My husband and I go here every couple of weeks or so. The food is delicious (particularly the vegetarian mixed starter, the beef rendang and the aubergine sambal). The service is polite and friendly. The prices are great. I really recommend that people make an effort to come here - only ten minutes walk from East Croydon station. Pippa Simonds - Review dated 8 April 2007 Malay House Been here once and I can safely say, that it's authentic Malay food. Nice selection although I was looking forward to having sup kambing!!..oh well guess I have to wait to go back to KL then...Try it if you don't know what Malaysian food is. Ray Lee - Review dated 26 January 2006 Malay House I pass the building everyday on my way to work, friends and the railway station, and never fail to notice the wonderful smell. At last I've been there and can honestly say the food's possibly the best I've eaten in a restaurant for ages. The prices are marvelous too. J Denny - Review dated 8 May 2003 Malay House We just can't help but eat here again and again! Being away from home, the Malay House is as close as I can get to my Ma's cooking w/o cooking myself!! and it is a very nice change to find a malay-malay restaurant~not chinese or indian recipes but malaysian!!-Delicious food, inviting atmosphere, very reasonable prices, excellent food for a perfect night out! Miss Widury PZB and Mr Warren KB - Review dated 4 April 2003 Malay House After reading in Time Out about this, 2 friends and I tried it and I can truly say that the meal was absolutely delicious and amazing value for money. Good choice for vegetarians and fantastic puddings! Wendy - Review dated 30 January 2003 Malay House Excellent food. Excellent Value! Glee - Review dated 30 January 2003 Malay House Inviting atmosphere, excellent food and very good value for money. S Ionie - Review dated 8 August 2002 Malay House Many Malay restaurants have a lot of Chinese influence - but this is real Malay-Malay. Having visited South East Asia several times I can vouch for the authenticity. The decor is simple and reasonably traditional. Service is friendly and helpful. The food is top notch and very good value for money - its difficult to spend over £10 per head. Unlicensed so an average score on the wine menu but you are encouraged to BYO (for a corkage of £1 per glass used no matter how many bottles). Andy E. - Review dated 17 May 2002 sambal Sambal restaurant NO LONGER exists and it was stunt and a result from the naivety of Miss A. Annuar who thought she could be the best malaysian restaurateur in London but she didn't have a clue about business. It has been replaced by Yasmine chinese restaurant. Haji Kamal Mohd Kamal - Review dated 30 August 2003 SAMBAL Sambal restaurant is the real hidden gem of Norbury. No one would expect such excellent restaurant could exist in this part of London. My advice to everybody out there, this restaurant is a must, must ! Do not miss their week-end live entertainment, last week was the 'LATINO NITE' performed by professional dancers - a great night out. Ali Imran Khan - Review dated 2 June 2003 Sambal I was persuaded by a friend to join her for dinner in Sambal and never regret it a minute although had to travel all the way from Luton. Being half Malaysian, I am proud that such restaurant existed to promote the real Malaysian Taste. Highly recommended. Haniee Richardson - Review dated 1 June 2003 Sambal As a regular customer of Sambal Malaysian Restaurant, I am pleased to learn that they have been voted best restaurant for the month of May. Well, all I can say is they really deserved it. Last night, I attended their 'LATINO NITE' and the buffet line was really great not to mention the brilliant performance by professional dancers, Valentine & Lilia from Russia. A great night out ! Cheers Sambal !!! Kate Stevens - Review dated 1 June 2003 Sambal Hi, I lived in Malaysia for over 20 years an d as a result have kept my ear to the ground about good quality, authentic malaysian cuisine. Finally, in Norbury a restaurant called Sambal hosted by a lovely lady named Ann is offering reasonably priced, very tasty, wonderful malaysian cuisine. Its a must visit, so get on down there guys. Later PWJ Philip - Review dated 24 May 2003 SAMBAL This unnoticeable restaurant along the busy Norbury London Road is really worth trying. Me and a couple of friends decided to give it a try and the Curry Laksa is to die for. The Beef Rendang just melt in your mouth. Great place for night out, beautiful decor, warm surrounding and friendly staff. M. We were recommended by our friends to the restaurant Singapore Orchid and met the owner Ananda. She was very attentive to our needs and recommended us a wide list of food we can have in her restaurant. We had a wonderful meal and both my wife and son felt thankful that they can now have chinese food and feel safe that it would be alright for them. shirley - Review dated 25 February 2010 Singapore Orchid The best satay, laksa, hainanese chicken rice I have ever tasted.
