banana leaf
Excellent food . I would highly recimmend it.

Banana Leaf
Went there (recomended by reviews on this site) with 2 Belgian + 1 South African friend (myself being an mixture of SA and Belgian). THE BEST FOOD I EVER HAD IN THE UK! The best Indian food sinds Mombasa in Kenya! Congrats!!! Our waiter was very friendly, made excellent suggestions! Certainly recommended!! Will go back!

Banana Leaf
The food here is excellent and having visited South India can confirm their food is as good as the local authentic cuisine. Try their wonderful ginger chicken and coconut rice - to die for! Their veggie dishes were also nicely cooked, spicy but not hot (as so many Indian restaurants just overkill with too much chilli) and not oily either. The service is excellent, the food terrific and the prices are very reasonable. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Banana Leaf
We put in a review over a year ago. We've been several times since and the food is consistently very good. Having a non-smoking floor is great for us (smoking area is downstairs). Definitely, one of our favourite restaurants (having been regulars at Indian restaurants in Wembley, Southall & Drummond St!

Banana Leaf
As someone who has spent a great deal of time visiting Indian Restaurants in the UK I can honestly say that The Banana Leaf is the best of its kind. The many friends and guests that we have taken there agree and its fame is well deserved.

The Banana Leaf
Some of the reviews on this site are a complete joke with childish spelling and grammer and pathetic accusations. Many are obviously posted by the same person under different names who I assume is either a competitor or just a very sad idiot. Why don't the administrators of this site remove this rubbish - it hardly encourages decent reviews. The Banana Leaf is always 100% excellent, the people that run it are very warm and friendly and very professional who have won awards for their top quality food. It is a South Indian restaurant with a selection of dishes that you don't usually find in more traditional curry houses. The Masala Dosa is a must!

Banana Leaf
Very nice. We love Indian food & this is certainly one of the best in Croydon. They have a good choice of vegetarian food and upstairs in non-smoking. We have been several times with friends & relatives. Usually, it has been excellent - one time though some of the curries were a bit too spicy masking the usually delicious flavours (this was Christmas 2003; so perhaps the usual chef was on holiday). The breads are very nice. The tarka dahl can be a bit too garlicy depending on what you like. Aubergine & green banana curry v.good. Mango lassi's could be a bit bigger but are very nice.

The Banana Leaf
Simply the best south Indian Resturant in South East England. Further more the Best Indian Resturant in the UK. Foods great, Service is Great and the atmosphere is great. For the people that dont agree sod u. Why have they won so many awards????? 4 the people that say its rubbish answer that. Only the best get as many awards as the Banana Leaf. 16 Years and Runnin Simply the Best.

Banana Leaf
I have been to this restaurant twice. The first time was about 10 years ago and my memory of the food was fantastic so I suggested a visit with some of my pals recently only to discover that the food was revolting (all four of us agreed) and the service completely sub-standard. They are welcome to refund my money anytime.

Terrible. I heard this was one of the best in Croydon. Don't believe it. The service wsa terrible, the food average at best. Over priced muck served by substandard human beings. I walked out.

The Banana Leaf
Fancied a curry and saw that this place got rave reviews. Was the single worse restaurant ive ever been to. The food was ok, the service wasnt average they were plain rude. If your not a regular dont bother, the staff treat you like.....

Banana Leaf
I have been to this restaurant quite a few times in the 15 or so years its been open. The prices are innline with other Indian restaurants in the area, but the food is a notch above most of the rest and the service cannot be faulted. The decor is fine too.
Wade - Review dated 12 February 2003
The Banana Leaf
Definitely one of the better Indian restaurants, well worth a visit by people who want a good meal. Lager drinking yobs in search of a mouth burning vindaloo, who tend to gravitate to other establishments, are not welcome, wanted or indeed evident among the clientele. An ideal place to bring your family and loved ones. For a detailed review visit the related sites page of my website at http://www.kenfrost.com

Banana Leaf
Difficult to write this without being biased as I've been a customer since it opened in 1988! Mind you, it takes somewhere special to keep me going somnewhere for 14 years. The Banana Leaf offers glorious South Indian food - a cuisine apart from the usual Tandoori. In a comprehensive menu vegetarians are very well catered for and there are interesting fish dishes as well. Service is just right - attentive but not rushed. The decor and atmosphere make for that mellowed out feeling. Several times Winner or Runner-up in the annual Croydon Curry Chef competition and deservedly so. Give it a try! You won't regret it.

The Banana Leaf
The Croydon Web prize for the best restaurant review was a free meal for two at the restaurant of their choice. The last winners of the prize chose to go to The Banana Leaf - Nuf said!

Bharat Bhavan
Excellent. Friendly staff who are all very customer focused. We have sampled various dishes in the restaurant and can say that from the mildest curry to a vindaloo are all delicious.

Bharat bawan
a real surprise! Finally indian food at itas best; ungreasy decent portion, generous starters, tasty and different dishes friendly served in a small cosy restaurant. Service a bit slow but as a chef I know that this is a sign of food freshly prepared and not reheated from frozen. A place where you are supposed to seat and enjoy your meal without hurry. On top of this prices of food and drinks are below the average, there is no service charge even if the service is friendly and accurate. We will definitely go back again. Mario

Bharat Bhavan Restaurant
Simple decor, easy atmosphere, friendly service. Extensive menu mainly South Indian but with dishes from other parts of the subcontinent. They a 3-course Lunch for £5 (veggy) or £6 (non-veg) which is good value - or you can go a la carte. Food is a notch or two above the average. This is certainly somewhere I would be pleased to go to again. Recommended.

Ordered delivery over the phone but never arrived. The guy on the phone lied. AVOID!

Bharat Bhavan Restaurant
Its a place i go most often say 3 to 4 days a week. What make it tick is its warmth and excellent service that it provides. As visitor to Croydon its home away from from for me. The place is amazing and the food you get is excellent and ethinic Indian. Do not miss the Malabar Parota and veg curry. Karim and Manu - really helps you and makes you feel good. The food, the service is the best in croydon.
Ceekay - Review dated 13 December 2007
Bharat Bhavan
Small, vaguely uninspiring little restaurant (opposite The Banana Leaf). But don't be put off! The staff are very friendly and really make you feel welcome. As for the food, they also specialize in South Indian cuisine so you've got Dosai (excellent) and the like available. I've not had a duff dish yet. Definitely now my favourite Indian. Prices are VERY reasonable including their wines. Excellent value for money.
Mike Owen - Review dated 21 December 2006
Bombay Blues
Bombay Blues in Purley (next to HSBC Bank) is probably the Best Indian Restaurant in the South. Fresh Food, great ambience and Fantastic Service. Now they are doing Lunch Time kebabs which is even better.

chat house was a terrible restaraunt the food was raw and not tastey at all so i recommend that you walk straight past chat house next time you see it

Carbon
Wine bar/resturant Really nice fusion of Indian and middle eastern food, great decor, really friendly staff, great service, lots of space (there's another room in the back), slightly let down by oily falafel and pre-boiled sweetcorn cobs otherwise impressed, reasonable prices too!

This restaurant was recomended to me and what a recommendation it was. Fantastic food, great service and really nice atmosphere. Try it for yourselves and youll have found your new Curry House!!

The Chat House is among the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to. Staff are friendly and take pride in their amazing food!

CHAT House
(In our opinion) Do not go to this restaurant, do not listen to other customers as staff are rude and think they above us! food average! staff unpleaslant! over priced! no go zone!
Reveley - Review dated 27 August 2006
Chathouse
To think that there are people actually trying to disregard the true qualities of good indian food actually astonishes me. Chathouse has to be amongst the best in Croydon, i should know having been eating there for several years. In the early years of being an average restaurant to now being an exclusive eatery is absolutely amazing and delightful. Keep it going strong AL!!!
Adrian - Review dated 8 June 2006
The Chat House
This is a very average restaurant. All the curries tasted like gravy, the service was poor and the atmosphere non-existent. Every time I walk past it's always empty, and having been there I can see why. Why eat here when you could go to the Khyber?
Tom - Review dated 20 April 2006
The Chat House
Great food, friendly staff, varied and tasty menu, good service, pleasant surroundings and what's more a fantastic valentines evening! Thank you Mr Ali and your team, you excelled again!

Chat House
This restaurant is a firm favorite of mine and of my local sports team, 60 plus Old Whitgiftian fans cannot be wrong! Chicken Tikka Pathia is fantastic option and a welcome change from the usual menus offered by other establishments. Mr Ali is a most wonderful, polite and accommodating host and will receive our custom for many years to come. Could the negative feedback people at least learn to spell correctly!
James Granville-Overton - Review dated 14 February 2006
CHAT HOUSE
This has got to be the best curry restuarant in central Croydon, we have been dining here for well over 10 yrs and as yet have never had a bad meal. The service is polite, courteous and quick, staff very friendly King Prawn Pathia is best ever tasted and I would highly recommend..Keep up the good work...AND IGNORE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON THIS SITE FOR THIS AND THE BANANA LEAF RESTUARANT...IF THEY WERE RUBBISH WHY WOULD THEY WIN CURRY CHEF OR THE YEAR AND BEST RESTUARANT AWARDS YEAR AFTER YEAR...TRY THEM YOURSELF

Chat House
The best indian restaurant i have ever been to! and ive been to a lot! Been going to this restaurant for over seven years and the food seems to get better! The service is friendly and very efficient. The decor is authentic but very classy. Owned by two brothers who know their regulars well and always take time to see how you are. Try the chicken tikka vindaloo!and if your brave try a phall ranging from 1-3! try it out. I'd be shocked if it dissapointed!

Chennai Dosa
Based 239 London Rd, Croydon, restaurant which sells all sorts of Dosa's (incl 6ft family one!) as well as a variety of other indian dishes for a VERY reasonable price. Highly recommend.

Coriander
As a regular in Croydon hotels, I've never been to Coriander but have often used their delivery service. Can't fault it - very tasty food, excellent, friendly and flexible service and very, very low prices. Never been disappointed.

Coriander
Tiny Indian takeaway on Croham Road, just under South Croydon Station. Very tasty food, wide-ranging menu, incredibly cheap, and the proprietors are very friendly.

Curry Hut
The food and service here is amazing with the recipies cooked in the Kerala regional style. Check this place out not so much as a restaurant but as a quality take away.

Depa India
I love this restaurant. Every time I have ever eaten here with anyone the whole party has been happy by the food and the service. They really cater for those that love the really spicy and the very mild like myself! I reccomend the Fish special for those that like a mild dish full of flavour!
Kelli - Review dated 18 July 2010
Depa Indian Restaurant
Food is not that bad, but the service and it's owner makes it a horrible experience. Bad service and the worst owner that I have ever experienced in my life. I don't really understand how is this restaurant running...
Rajat Saxena - Review dated 19 September 2007
Depa Indiana Restaurant
This actually a Bangladeshi restaurant, not an Indian restaurant. We have been eating at this restaurant for many years now and the quality of the food and service has always been excellent. I can truly say that we have never had a bad meal, ever. We regularly take my children here as well and they always say it is their favorite place to eat. If you like Indian/Bangladeshi food with a peaceful atmosphere Depa Indiana is for you.

Diwana (Sanderstead)
My wife and I are very picky about restaurants and have tried a lot of places since moving here five years ago. WE LOVE DIWANA! The service is always spot on and staff are charming and very eager to please. The restaurant is comfortable and the atmosphere intimate. AMAZING food! Diwana is one of the few innovative Indian restaurants in the area - their Saturday specials (e.g. traditional Indian lamb chop curry) and newly-introduced, home-made desserts (heavenly chocolate tart!) are astounding. Quite simply the best Indian restaurant for miles. You will not be disappointed!
James Turner - Review dated 4 October 2008
Diwana Sanderstead
Absolutely diabolical. The service and food is terrible. they made six of us squeeze on to a table for 4 despite a reservation. we waited 20 min for drinks and had to ask for glasses. 11/2 hours for starters which were cold. The prawn puri was tasteless frozen prawns microwaved. chicken pakora was like chichen nuggets. Dips were in tiny eggcup bowls. no apologies when complained. main meal was cold. Prawn korma had chicken and PLASTIC in it, the prawns were frozen defrosted in the sauce so like soup, disgusting!!. Veg curry was baby food, identifiable veg was peas. Chicken in the biryana was dried tough reheated. The table next to us had tandoori, came out sizzling but so burnt it set of the smoke alarms so they had to open all the windows and freeze us. We ate about six mouthful of food each and despite complaints it was still 17,50 each. it was like fawlty towers meets a 1970's indian restaurant. only eat here if you are in a time warp or can risk food poisoning.

Garam Masala
I went to the Garam Masala and discovered it is still the East India!! Mr Chowdhury's son now runs it and decided to give it a new decor. Fantastic. The food is great, the atmosphere was relaxed and clean and teh service was excellent! It is probably one of the oldest restaurants in the country and once you have tried their excellent food , you will know why!

Garam Masala Restaurant
Nice contemporary restaurant. Staff are really friendly and welcoming. The food has a lot of flavour, big portions and really reasonably priced. We will definitely go back and its nice to see that everyone we are recommending are saying exactly the same things. Well done Garam Masala!

East India Restaurant Ltd
(Now Garam Masala Restaurant) This wonderful establishment is one of the oldest Indian restaurants under the same ownership in the South of the UK. The staff are professional, polite and friendly. There is always a mixture of families, professionals and friends there. The food is cooked by their popular chef who adds magic to the food which we all enjoy in a most pleasent environment. You must check out the huge chandelier it is so beautiful also, we will continue to go for th next 40 years also. The food is just amazing and deliveries are prompt as is the service.

Gurkha Spice
We LOVED this place!! Waited for what seemed like ages for it to reopen after a refurb and it was well worth the wait! The guys in this place are SO friendly, the food is FANTASTIC. We started chatting with the couple on the table next to us who appeared to be regulars, the lady said it "is my most favourite place in the world" and to be honest I can quite see why. You MUST visit this restaurant.

The Gurkha Spice
One of my favourtie Indians! The guys here are so nice and they'll bend over backwards to make sure you have a great evening. Gurkha Lamb Dry Fry and Himalayan Mixed Kebab are definite highlights. Good quality popadoms and sides too. Did I mention that I love this place?

Kerala Bhavan
Awful is the word to describe this restaurant. The food is expensive, lack in both quality and quantity compared to cost of food, staffs are not friendly. The waiter was not able to recommend a good dish. I had only been once to this place and will stick to that for rest of my life.

Kerala Bhavan
A good place for Indian food, especially South Indian (Kerala) dishes. The ambience is well maintained. Staff here is very friendly and help us make the correct choices based on our taste. They can 'tune' the dishes to our taste (spicy/hot/mild)! They have some North Indian stuff on their menu as well. A good place to eat Indian food on a week end or for official meetings.

Kerala Bhavan
We eat at this restaurant every week because the food is simply wonderful and the service is friendly. Both veggie and non-veggie delights are on the menu. We have tried many Croydon restaurants but always return to the Kerala Bhavan.

Kerela Coast
Kerala Coast Restaurant, 020 86889990, 300 High St, Croydon By far the best Indian Restaurant in Croydon. Being asian/indian my self, i am generally critical of most Indian restaurants. As it's the food we eat at home which always tastes beter than what the restaurants give you. However, Kerela coast is just like the food we eat at home. Try some you won't be dissapointed!!

Khana Peena
Was good value while it was running the opening offer of 50% discount on take-aways and food is tasty and good quality, if a little on the oily side. Not sure there is that much to distinguish it from some of the other South Croydon curry houses now though.

Khyber
One of Croydon's heavyweight Indian's in more ways than one. It's definitely at the classier end, with excellent mains and sides costing slightly more than your standard curry house (about £50 for two with a bottle of wine). It's heavy on the waistline too - their portions are huge and they insist on putting all of it on your plate. But the service and the food are good and it's definitely worth a visit.

Mirch Masala
Expansive ground floor venue with large tables and plenty of space. A staff member opened the door and greeted us and rustled up a table for ten with no great fuss. The waiters were polite and efficient and service was brisk. The food itself was of suprisingly good quality and portions were generous. Staff were happy to try and cope with special dietary requirements. No alchohol is served but you are welcome to BYO and there is no corkage. The bill, when it came, was very reasonable. One must, however, remember that the Mirch is really a fast-food establishment. No hot drinks are served so no coffee to linger over - the Mirch want that table back for the next set of customers! This is not somewhere to end up on first-name terms with the owner, and certainly not the place for that intimate supper a deux or for a special occasion. If, however, you are want to grab a quick lunch, or need a refuelling stop when out with a few friends the Mirch could just be the place.

Mohini Balti House
This is our local so we visit usually twice a month. Food very reasonably priced and superb. We have never had a bad meal yet. Seating a bit squashed as is the norm in most traditional indian restaurants but food more than makes up for it. Our daughters favourite is the red chicken balti which we have never seen anywhere else. Extras such as the fresh oranges and cream liqueur with the bill only add to the experience. Miah the owner is friendly and always makes a point of coming over to speak to you. Great local, little gem.

Ocean Indian Restaurant
This place is great, the food reflects that of a very upmarket restaurant, and the service is good. The dishes are cooked well, and you can always taste the indivdual spices. The starters are excellent, especially the lamb with coconut and the okra. Take a trip to Coney Hall and give it a try.

hi... guys. I'm basically an Indian. And I love Indian food. I tried this restaurant in Coney hall and found that it was authentic Indian. Great food and excellent presentation. The only thing that puzzled me was that they didn't have sheek kebab on their menu. But I was convinced after tring a white chicken tikka which was superb.

Royal asia tandoori
This is the worst Indian restaurant that you will find. To start with this is not an Indian rest. The staff and cook I feel don`t understand what indian food is.How else can u describe, when u order cucumber raita and get a small bowl of plain curd with one big piece of cucumber at the bottom. This is a totally customised and misleading rest. so if u are an Indian and wanna have some food that tastes atleast near-to indian food...just dont go there and save on ur precious money.

Sheesh Mahal
I always have low expectations of the traditional 'Tandoori' restaurant so ventured to the Sheesh Mahal without great hopes. On entry we received cheerful banter from one of the customers and enjoyed an exchange of good humour with the waiter. I elected for a fish dish and was presently suprised. It was delicately cooked and not drowned in a rich sauce as dishes often are in similar establishments. Decor was agreeable, staff attentive and pleasant and food very good - with a few unusual items on the menu to tempt the jaded palette. All told, a happy experience. Recommended.

Spice Cafe
Oh this was so good when it first opened. Simple decor, friendly service, generous portions of tasty grub and very reasonable priced. But what's gone wrong. True, the simple style, cheerful service, heaped platefulls and good value remain. Trouble is the food has gone downhill and what was once a treat is now unexciting and too oily. A shame.

This is a new restaurant in Surrey Street which offers a new concept in express indian food. they have an all day buffet which includes over twenty disshes. the food was fresh and the nan is straight out of the oven. Taste of Bengal
What a dreadful experience. We ordered a take away from here last week and were told it would be delivered in 40 minutes. An hour later still no food so I phoned and was told the owner was on his way - half an hour later still no food - as I was on the phone to the restaurant the driver (owner) showed up. Our food was cold and when I said to him that is was an unacceptable amount of time to be waiting with no explanation his response was "do you want the food or not". Not exactly great customer service! Whilst he did give us the meal at a 50% discount the food was cold and very greasy. I shall not be orering from here again.

My favourite indian restaurant. We probably visit at least once a month. the food is always good here, i've tried quite a few different dishes, tasty and good quality meat. prices about average, with very friendly service. Tikka Masala
We went again after a year's gap. Disappointing. The Kashmiri recipes had coconut in them. There are no coconuts in Kashmir! I wondered if they would put tomatoes in the Kerelan or Goan recipes, just to confuse us. Didn't feel cared for and left after one course. Shan't go again.

We've been going to this restaurant for the last 5 years, and the food is consistently good and reasonably priced. If you want something special just ask Abdul (the manager) and he'll always try to oblige. The chicken tikka and tandoori king prawns are particularly good.

Zara's Kitchen
Only Indian we bother going to in Croydon. The place feels like an extension of our own dinning room whenever we go, the atmosphere is that good. Easily the best service; friendly, informal and relaxing. Pity it's name means the reviews are at the bottom of the page! Anyway, the foods stunning, and the bring your own drink means you can have a full meal for roughly a tenner each. Couldn't reccomend highly enough.

A friendly welcome, superb food & they even cater for GLUTEN FREE diets. I had onion bhaji's for the first time in 2 years!! Wow, what a treat for me. Zara is very kind, understanding & happy and it's a pleasure to eat there. A lovely restuarant - as resturants used to be and should be - you are not "just a number" you are a friend when you eat there.

Zara's Kitchen
The quality of the food and service is very high, nothing is too much trouble and advice is given if you need it regarding what to order and what dishes complement each other. You are not persuaded to order things you dont want or to over order, the waiters are very honest and have your best dining interests at heart. Dishes are freshly prepared and take slightly longer to arrive because of this and it is worth it! Portions are generous, well presented and very reasonably priced. Zara's kitchen is a favourite restaurant of ours and I cannot recommend it enough to others to frequent, it really is a Croydon gem!

My wife and I have been going here since it opened 9 years ago and it has consistently been nothing short of exceptional for the brilliant food, impeccable service and the generous portions. You can BYO as well, so even better. The owners, Zara and her husband really look after you, and you may even get a lift home from Zaras husband after your meal! Can't recommend it highly enough.
