Auberge
Tucked away nicely from all the shoppers, Auberge is a hidden gem. Our food arrived fairly quickly but why does a nice establishment such as this feel the need to employ the most atrocious Elvis Presley singer? There are far better Elvii (?- plural?) out there who would be a credit to Auberge.

Auberge
As a quick lunch place it is acceptable: food comes relatively fast and, though it isn't high-dining, it is acceptable. I still balk at the £1.35 for a glass of tap water though.

Had a delightful lunch today - food was excellent and the service with big smiles. whitgift centre needs to do more to keep pigeons out of the building

GREAT FOOD. SHAME ABOUT THE ELVIS My family and I went to AUBERGE in Croydon because they were advertising an Elvis show there. We only wanted Elvis and were bit disappointed when the same guy tried to do Tom Jones as well!! As Elvis, he still had his Tom Jones hair-style!!! The food we ordered came in a reasonable amount of time and was hot, quite spicy but not overly-so. We were all made to feel welcome and enjoyed our time there very much. We would visit again, but maybe when there is no show. He was better at Tom than Elvis!! 8 out of 10: Food and setting 7 out of 10: Tom Jones 1 out of 10: Elvis (sorry)

Auberge
Good place for a Shoppers lunch! Totally lacking in atmosphere but away from the hustle and bustle and good for a relaxing moment when you've had enough of the department stores. Their fishcakes are lovely and my husband usually enjoys their croque monsieur, or something of that ilk. I always recommend it to my friends when they are going shopping.

First adn last visit. Was served a burnt garlic bread and was asked if we would it changed! Both pasta dishes were very weak and tasteless. Service diabolical not even an apology AND a service charge was added!

Not a happy visit. Food ok but not as hot as it could have been! Had trouble explaining myself to the chap that was serving as he obviously could not understand English. Am sure my visit was a one off?!

Boulevard
Just came back from Boulevard and I have to say that I was really impressed. Great food, really delicious, very high quality and nicely presented. Good atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent value, my husband and I had three courses and two soft drinks each (I had breaded gouda as a starter, a T-Bone Steak and creme brulee, he had the mozzarella & bacon rolls, goulash and cheesecake) and it only came to £42! If I had to make any suggestions I would say maybe change the laminated menus for some classier ones though! All in all a great place to eat, and as I said, REALLY great food.

Boulevard
Slow service, rude bar manager and cold food which was a shame seeing that I had been there a couple of months back and had decided to take along 3 friends as a result of previously having an enjoyable meal. Our main course had to be sent back twice due to the fact that it was cold. We then ordered liquer coffees which were cold and had to be returned. They came back without any alcohol and had to be returned again at which point the Bar Manager came over to our table and asked "what is your problem now". He refused to accept that there was not any alcohol in the coffees at which point I advised him to cancel the order and take it off our bill. His reply was "that is what is all about". To add insult to injury the coffees were included on the bill.

Frequently visit on a Sunday as open all day. Food can be variable from fantastic to o.k depending on how busy they are. House wine is great and really reasonably priced as is everything on the menu. Great value, on average a three course meal, bottle of wine, coffee for two and even a brandy for £40-45. Have always found staff to be really good and you even get a bread basket included, perhaps some other establishments should look at how The Boulevard delivers for the prices they charge!

I have been to this place in a small group and the meal was fine (big portions and good value). Unfortunately, going there in a big group was a huge mistake-starters took an hour and a half to arrive, and weren't served together, food was cold when we eventually did get it, and the staff were rude. I certainly won't be going back.

Have been before but forgotten how good this place is! Fantastic value - loads of food and very tasty. £5 menu was excellent value. Service attentive but discreet. Will definitely go back sooner rather than later

What a tremendous restaurant. Not my first visit but after experiencing such a wonderful evening I thought I ought to tell others about it. The fillet stake was cooked to perfection, great value for money. An excellent selection of wines with a particularly good French House wine. Great food, great service in a nice atmosphere. Recommended.

last night my wife had roasted mushrooms half of which were woody and inedible. the waiters claimed thats how they often are! later my wife had spltting headache, blotchey skin, racing heart (foodpoisoning) diarrhoea and sickness all night. cheap, buzzing but dodgy. too ambitious a menu. food but not as we know it. unbelievable response from management. plenty of good places in croydon, why risk it.

What a dreadful place. The service is atrocious. The food does not reflect the menu, e.g. sweet chilli sauce was actually chopped tinned tomatoes, fresh veg is tinned, fresh cream was either off or synthetic. It's cheap and you get what you pay for!

I love this restaurant! Food is delicious, very well presented and excellent value. Desserts are superb! Atmosphere is very cosy, romantic yet bubbly and lively. Staff are friendly but not "in your face." The popularity of this restaurant will tell you this is an excellent place to eat. I also like the fact it is very clean and hygiene is very good... Def recommend to others!!

Went with some friends, who recommended the restaurant. Very disappointing visit. Too noisy and impersonal. Food was ok, but not inspiring. Definitely not in the same league as the Little Bay.

Boulevard
Went there for the first time last week - and it won't be the last! The food was absolutely delicious, well presented, lots of it, and reasonably priced. Very varied menu (if you like fish, which I do), and the atmosphere was lovely. Service was discreet, but there when you wanted it. You would imagine it to be a lot more expensive than it is. Can't recommend it highly enough! Compliments to the Chef Pawel from Poland! You're the best!!!

Offers a wide range of specials from all over Europe. Amazing value for money. Rivals the Little Bay for cost and quality. Very friendly service and gets very busy in the evenings despite not being on the main South Croydon strip.

Fantastic mouth watering traditional french food... check out the mussels, unbelieveable value for money... all food comes wonderfully presented with side salad and french fries, A good range of dishes, Good friendly service, a little quite during the day but don't be put off by the tucked away location.

I took my mum here for Xmas lunch. Over £100 for an inedible main course The turkey was tinned - sliced off a roll. I have had better school dinners. Many diners exchanged disappointed glances. I feel ripped off.

Chateau Napoleon
I love this restaraunt and will have no bad words said of it. My parties are usually held here and I love Jeremy and his crew. First went there in 2003/4 and never looked back. Food is fantastic, price is reflective of the quality and the service is superb. They really know how to make a party a grand affair. Long live this restaraunt and all who dine in it!!

Chateau Napoleon
Wonderful atmosphere and meal - Service was absolutely impeccable. Meal was served promptly, very hot, and at a really good price, good quality, plenty for all and a good range from the set menu of only £15 per head.

The Chateau Napolean
This is a restuarant with classic class and charm with a bar area with nook fireplace for pre dinner drinks and after dinner smoking. The maitre 'd Jeremy makes you feel like royalty and makes an effort to get to know his regulars. There is a set price monthly menu which is affordable and varied. The a la carte menu is good but could be better but the specials board makes up for that. The food is always of a high standard and service is good.I would recommend valentines with a free drink, a rose for the ladies and an atmosphere made for romance. My daughters have also been for the last two years and we were both been given privacy from each other. Jeremy makes the whole experience for me and i can't wait to go back for Mother's day and another affordable but special occasion.

A very nice venue for that special evening. Their fixed price menu offers some very nice options at a sensible price. On a warm evening we enjoy having a drink before dinner on the patio.

Jardin De Provence
We took a group of friends back in February for my 40th and had a great evening. The food and service were fabulous. They even arranged for a birthday cake for me. We would recommend the restaurant to anyone. In fact we are going back for our wedding anniversary.

Jardin de Provence
Fabulous food, though my fiance and I advise to stay well clear of their 'special' events. Having booked a table for Valentines we were not told of the 'special' menu which had a choice of 3 for each course when we booked. The service was terrible and on average waited 30 minutes between courses and watched as they served people who had just come in before the people who had been waiting aound for ages. Once again though I stress the food was great, though from the other reviews I was highly dissapointed in the service.

Jardin de Provence
Fantastic restaurant - I have had great meals here ... sometimes with just my partner and at others with a large family ... it doesn't matter - they always get the atmosphere right. Their food is always divine, the service is friendly and the wine is fantastic. I really recommend the Sunday lunch for a fabulous family catch up.

Le Jardin De Provence
I've only been twice so far but my partner & I are very impressed. The food is excellent & there's a wide range of yummy things to suit all tastes (even a non-fish eater like me). The house white wine was great,(not the usual 'vinegar' that you almost expect to be served)& at approx £9.99 per bottle it is reasonably priced. There's a nice atmosphere & there's no awkward waiters hovering around trying to steal your plate before you've finished! My rating, 9 out of 10.

Our favourite place with my NCT group.Really nice facilities and high chair available which is good. The price is ok.Delicious food. But after going there for long time we find when its really busy things could sometimes be missing.I stopped having their ceaser salad cos its always missing some ingredients.sent it back but came with the dressing missing! But out of 10 will give 8.We still go there for lunch.

Jardin de Provence
I have been to Jardin several times; the restaurant has a bar area as you enter, and good seating. When you book ahead (NB: Make sure you do) the setting is calm, clean and lit with a good balance of main lighting to the bar area, and softer lighting at the tables. The menu is a good mix of meat, sea fish, pasta and specials. There is a fantastic selection of real quality French wines at very reasonable prices (£9.95 for the house dry white) The Herb and Tomato Aubergine bake is fantastic, a spicy mix of tomatos with the fresh garlic and cheese. The Garlic steak cooked rare is wonderful. The cheese board, with it’s lashing's of Brie, and another fine cheese's, all this rounded off with such a great priced selection of brandy’s at good prices. The cost of the bill reflects an in touch with the people restaurant, approx £67.00 for two people with a starter, main, bottle of house white, cheese selection and 2*brandy’s. An excellent, restaurant, every time.

Little Bay Croydon
My wife told me about this resteraunt and She,I and 2 friends ate there last night. Not only is the venue extraordinary the food really was superb. The chef knows how to cook a steak (I like rare and chefs seem scared of serving rare meat) and prices were really reasonable. Between us we ate seafood, meat and veggy courses and everyone loved their choice...even the chips were good.I look forward to taking guests there and seeing the shock on their faces.....oh and the wine was good value....a real gem ...if you want an opera box booth be specific when you book.

Little Bay
Have visited frequently, our biggest problem up until Sunday was the smokiness, but will no longer be a problem! Another tip is that unless you ask firmly they never offer you a table downstairs in the "exotic" bit. Food always delicious and fantastic value. Went once on a Monday which is opera night and was a complete hoot. Our daughter squirmed with embarrassment as the female opera singer pulled my husband to his feet to dance with her whilst she sang! Luckily he is a good sport. Great atmosphere would recommend for a group night out. House wine too "rough" for our tastes so always go for another. Other than that, great value, good service and great atmosphere especially on the opera nights!

Little Bay
My boyfriend and i visited Little Bay, South Croydon, last night. This was our second visit, and were fortunate enough to get a table in the main restaurant this time, rather than upstairs. The decor downstairs is amazing with high ceilings and lots of booths, stacked two high, with little staircases up to the second level. It has to be seen to be believed! The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. A 3 course meal for the two of us, with 2 bottled beers each came to £36. We will certainly go back, but will avoid upstairs seating, its mainly for large groups, which is a real let down compared to downstairs.

Wonderful,we went for my son's wedding party on Saturday afternoon. There were 46 people from all over the world and all age groups and nationalities. All really enjoyed excellent food, good wine, great friendly service and a great atmosphere.Remarkably good value for such a great range of foods including vegetarian dishes. The only difficulty was eating all the food and only one of the party managed to finish the wonderful profiteroles!Well done indeed.

Little Bay
We just return here again and again. The food is tasty, the service excellent and the prices make for great value for money. An excellent buzzy atmosphere with unusual, fun theatre style surroundings. Live music Sats and opera singers Monday and Wed. Most main courses around £5, starters and dessersts around £2. Blackboard specials a bit more but with sea bass at £10, it's still very reasonable. Go, you won't regret it.

little bay croydon
Disgusting - only one word needed. Visited Sat 12th with my boyfriend. We booked the table for 7.30 & by 8.30 had both finished a 3 course meal! The service was rushed, we were made to feel like we were holding them up by deciding our choice of food. A T-bone steak was served within 10 minutes. Will never visit again & thought the food was cold, poor & limited choice of menu & will definately not recommend anyone to go there.

Beautiful interior at the back of the restaurant are little boothes which are decorated in a magical way. There is velvet on the walls and risque art in the toilets. The menu is very very cheap - £5 for mains, however little for vegetarians! Friendly staff and lovely experience!

Little Bay
Giorgio, the "maitre de" with the mostest, left at Christmas 2003. The Little Bay is not, and will not ever be, the same without him. Much against our better judgment my husband and I were coerced into going there recently just to try it out, under the new management and with the changes that have taken place. Suffice to say that we shall not be returning. The restaurant has lost all of its charm, along with Giorgio, and the poor attempt at becoming "Sarastro" simply does not work. We sat in a balcony box and stifled! We would have liked to be there on a night when there was live music, but no one seems to know when that will be - it's pot luck. The food is the same, although slightly more expensive than in the past, but without the ambience and bonhomie, coupled with the loss of the personal touch, we will not be bothering with this restaurant again. Bring back Giorgio and we'll be there like a shot.
Diana D'Abrera - Review dated 12 October 2004
Little Bay
Local friendly restaurant, with fabulous food! Has recently been extended and includes a gorgeous section at the back of the restaurant which resembles Sarastro in Covent Garden - they even have the same risque artwork in the toilets!! Great atmos, great food, great prices. It's onyl downfall is that it does not have a no-smoking section and with all the tables so close to eachother it gets very thick with smoke.

Very impressive. Friendly with good food and value. Sufficiently relaxed for family parties while providing high standards. Our son introduced us to the establishment and felt sufficiently confident to treat us!

Little Bay
Little Bay is at 32 Selsdon Road. Visited one lunchtime accompanied by my 8 year old son. Entering the restaurant is like stepping five decades into the past with wooden tables and panelled walls. Menu is quite varied and shows some imagination, though there is not much here for the vegetarian. Service was quick and polite, the background music (ranging from the 20s to the 60s) initially obtrusive, seemed to blend nicely into the background, and the decor is easy. Lunch for two with a couple of drinks left us with change out £20. Recommended.

This restaurant is fantastic. A throw-back to the bistros of the 60s/70s and one of a kind. The Maitre d' (Giorgio) is terrific and the staff are all lovely. Food is great and so reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere, good service and brilliant value for money.

Long-standing (we've been going for over 4 years, which itself is a longevity record for a restaurant in South Croydon!), family run restaurant, with an imaginative menu and good food at an affordable price, no pretensions. A little crowded at times, but that just proves its worth!

Came here on Mother's Day, with a party of 9. The service was appalling. The waiter was so rude, I was hard pushed not to walk out - but after we had waited over an hour, we started to get Stockholm Syndrome (that's where the kidnapped start to sympathise with the kidnappers!). Food wasn't bad, but after a 90 minute wait, a McDonalds would have tasted good. I was embarrassed to have brought my lovely mum to this trashy restaurant.

Eva and I visited this restaurant recently. In summary we both agree that we will defintely visit it again. It offers an eclectic mixture of tapas, french and pasta dishes. The restaurant is well decorated but the atmosphere would be improved with less bright lighting.
